When you are ready to get started with Pilates for the first time, one thing to remember from the start is that this is a journey. When you are willing to try something new and be consistent with your workout, you will start to understand more of the concepts that come with it and you can get more out of the workout. One thing that you will love about Pilates is that it is able to work the whole body. While you work to stabilize one part of the body, another one starts to move. Some movements or ranges f motion will be smaller at first as you learn how to do them and then you can progress as you get better.

There are two main principles that you will need to consider with Pilates; precision and control. As you do some of the movements, remember that quality is more important than quantity. You may not be able to do it for long or a lot of them, but if you are able to complete the workout with the right posture and push yourself a little bit each time, then you will be able to see all the benefits on your body and life.

You also need to work on your breath. Pilates breathing is important because it helps to increase the capacity of the lungs and is part of the movement that you do. Missing out on some of the breathing can make the moves harder than before and will stop you from getting all of the benefits. You will work to take deep breaths in the process, going all the way down to the core as you make some of the movements. If you find that some of the movements are getting tough or you are not feeling like you are in alignment during them, then taking a few deep breaths and letting go of some of the stress can make a big difference and allows you to keep going with some of the movements too.
