Drainage System Maintenance: The Key to Longevity
I
nstalling a drainage system is only half the battle. Like any engineered structure, it requires periodic inspection and maintenance. Neglecting preventative care means you risk seeing puddles in the same spot again in a few years. The main enemy of any drainage system is siltation, where soil particles and fine debris clog the pipe holes and geotextile pores, rendering the system useless.
Regular maintenance includes a visual inspection of discharge points after heavy rains. If no water is coming out or the flow is very weak, that's a sure sign of a clog. You should also check catch basins and surface drain grates, clearing them of leaves, twigs, and other debris. To prevent French drain clogging, it is recommended to flush the system every few years by running water under pressure through installed cleanout ports or the pipe outlet.
Remember that the landscape around your home is not static. Over time, soil can settle, altering the original slope, and tree roots can grow into a drain pipe and destroy it. Therefore, it is beneficial to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the entire system once a year, perhaps in the spring, to identify and fix minor issues before they become major problems. This will save you both money and stress in the long run. https://drenazh-nauchastke.ru/
