Mastering the Hitch: The Definitive Guide to Connecting Your Hydraulic Reversible Plough to Your Tractor

Connecting a Hydraulic Reversible Plough to your tractor is more than just coupling two machines; it's the critical step that determines the efficiency, safety, and quality of your primary tillage. An improperly hitched plough strains the tractor, wears out parts prematurely, and delivers poor soil inversion.

Follow this definitive guide to ensure you master the hitching process and maximize the performance of your implement, like the robust Surya Shakti plough.

Step 1: Safety First, Always

Before you start, safety must be your top priority.

  • Parking Brake: Ensure the tractor is on a level surface with the engine off and the parking brake firmly set.

  • Clear the Area: Ensure no one is between the tractor and the plough, and that all implements (chisel ploughs, cultivators, etc.) are clear of the immediate vicinity.

  • Clear the Plough: Verify that the plough bottoms are clean and the reversal mechanism is locked or secured.

Step 2: Positioning and Linkage Preparation

The key to easy hitching is precise positioning and proper setting of the tractor's three-point linkage.

  1. Align the Tractor: Slowly back the tractor up until the three-point linkage arms are roughly aligned with the plough's mounting pins.

  2. Adjust Lift Arms: Use the tractor's external hydraulic controls (if available) or the internal lever to adjust the height of the lower lift arms so they are slightly below the plough's mounting pins.

  3. Widen Lower Links: Adjust the hydraulic or mechanical lift rod on the lower links to spread them slightly wider than the plough’s pins.

Step 3: Coupling the Lower Links

  1. Connect Left Link: Back the tractor carefully until the fixed (non-adjustable) left link slides easily over the plough's mounting pin. Secure it immediately with the hitch pin and R-clip or split pin.

  2. Connect Right Link: Adjust the length of the right (adjustable) lift rod until its end aligns perfectly with the remaining plough pin. Once connected, secure it with the hitch pin and R-clip. Do not force the pin; adjust the link length until it slides freely.

  3. Lock the Lower Links: Engage the stabilizers or sway chains on the tractor's lower links. The plough should have enough side-to-side swing to navigate turns but not so much that it causes excessive sway during operation.

Step 4: Connecting the Top Link

The top link controls the plough's pitch (front-to-back angle) and is crucial for proper soil inversion.

  1. Adjust Height: Raise the lower links slightly to bring the top link mounting hole on the plough into alignment with the tractor’s top link connection point.

  2. Connect: Secure the top link, ensuring it is centered.

  3. Initial Length Setting: Set the initial top link length so that the main beam of the plough is perfectly level when viewed from the side. You will make final pitch adjustments once you are in the field.

Step 5: Connecting the Hydraulics and Final Checks

The seamless operation of your reversible plough depends on clean, secure hydraulic connections.

  1. Connect Hydraulic Hoses: Connect the plough's hydraulic hoses to the tractor's auxiliary outlets. Note which valve controls the reversal and verify the hose connections are clean and fully seated to prevent leaks and pressure loss.

  2. Connect Depth Wheel: If equipped, attach the depth wheel linkage or cylinder as specified by the manufacturer.

  3. Final Walk-Around:

  • Confirm all hitch pins are secured with R-clips.

  • Ensure the plough stands or parking legs are raised and secured.

  • Verify the plough bottoms are locked in the transport or initial working position.

By following these steps, you ensure the Surya Shakti Hydraulic Reversible Plough is hitched safely and correctly, setting you up for efficient and uniform primary tillage.
